| Captive
State is the musical duo of songwriters Tom Bootle
and Joseph Kennedy. The sound they create is best
described as a combination of acoustic song and
beat driven electronica, pulled together by soulful
lyrics and catchy horn tinged melodies. They perform
their songs with the Captive State band, a collective
of nine talented individual musicians. Each element
brings their own influences making the multi-layered
epic sound of Captive State a true melting pot
of musical creativity. Captive State have managed
to create an original and distinctive sound that
has the listener both nodding and singing along
to. This sound has not been created over night
so please read on to learn the history.

| Hailing
from Jamaica, The Skatalites have played a major
part in popularising ska. Consisting of some of
the best musicians from that island, they played
together initially between 1963 and 1965 but recorded
many of their best known songs in the period including
"Guns of Navarone" as well as playing
on records by Prince Buster and many other Jamaican
artists who recorded during the period. They reformed
in 1986 and have played together ever since.

| Quirky
Liverpudlian trio making indie based pop-rock.
Influenced by the likes of Arcade Fire and The
Beach Boys, The Wombats make driving indie-pop,
backed up by catchy tunes and up-beat melodies
that consistently teeter on the edge of the bizarre
and the brilliant. Tight as hell and with an ear
for quirky melodies that defies belief. (back

| Initially
inspired by the 2 Tone sound, the now legendary
Ninja Tune DJ, Mr Scruff is famed for his awesome
hip-hop sound, his epic six-hour sets and his
sense of the comic. His sets are a mixture of
deck-related wizardry and animated tom-foolery
and will leave even the most hardened of anti-dance
music critics grinning and boogieing the night
away. (back

| Les
Savy Fav are known for angular, abrasive guitar
and bass melodies, complemented by singer Tim
Harrington's educated, poetic lyrics sung or shouted
over the instruments. Harrington's involved lyrics
make broad-ranging academic references to such
disparate topics as Stockholm syndrome, the architects
of Carthage, and palimpsests. The band has a highly-regarded
live show due to the antics of frontman Harrington,
including kissing multiple audience members and
on-stage wardrobe changes. These antics, however,
rarely seem to faze the rest of the band as they
continue to play as if nothing out of the ordinary
is happening.

ability that will catch you out, just when you
think you can relax. Together for only a year,
tongue-twisters Joe Lean, Tom D, Dom O'Dare, Panda

that will leave even the coolest of London's club-goers
a mite hot under the collar.

conquering some of the world's biggest decks as
prominent DJs in their own right, The Count AKA
The Count Of Monte Cristal AKA Hervé began
perking up ears with his 'Ghetto Bitches EP' and
has recently unleashed the club and radio smash
'Cheap Thrills' while Sinden has built his reputation
remixing everyone from Basement Jaxx to Bonde Do
Role to Mark Ronson and collaborated on original
material with the likes Solid Groove, Jesse Rose
and Trevor Loveys. Marking Domino's continuing foray
into club music, there's a universal joy and fresh
innocence here that's damn near impossible not to
like. The single 'Beeper' was released on the 24th
of March and The Count & Sinden will be releasing
their highly anticipated, musically all embracing
debut album later this year, which sets out to unite
fans of hip hop, indie, niche and house alike.

| Glaswegian
singer-songwriter, whose folk-blues songwriting,
powerful vocals and passionate delivery have earned
her quite a reputation, despite her young age.
Macdonald's lyrics are often written in a typical
pop style. She has stated in interviews that her
lyrics are based on real life issues and situations
rather than the melodramatic lyrics offered by
other artists of her age. Her
debut album, This Is the Life, was released on
30 July 2007. (back

Drew and Charles Spearin began this journey with
a small ensemble of friends. It flourished into
Broken Social Scene. Many of the same people that
play on k.c. accidental's albums, also play on
both Broken Social Scene albums. Thus k.c. accidental
is Broken Social Scene. Confused? Good. If you
feel lost that's okay, because everything is going
to be alright and sometimes it's good to be lost.

ZOLOF,
THE ROCK & ROLL DESTROYER
|
|
| Tuesday
23rd May 2008 - 7pm |
| Schematics
marks the third LP from Zolof The Rock & Roll
Destroyer, and the first since 2003’s dance-a-thon
Jalopy Go Far, released on Eyeball Records (My
Chemical Romance, Thursday). Since then, the band
released an EP featuring Kenny Vasoli of the Starting
Line and Anthony Green from Circa Survive and
Saosin, and recently colaborated with friends
Reel Big Fish on a six-song split exclusively
containing duets between the 2 bands. When not
in the studio, Zolof tours nationally with bands
like the Gym Class Heroes and Motion City Soundtrack.
These pop-rock angels have earned their wings
and achieved a greater rock realization with their
creation of Schematics. The moog synthesizers
and jump-up-and-down sing-a-longs are still mainstays
in Zolof The Rock & Roll Destroyer’s
new songs but also present is a maturity of songwriting
that deepens their musical pool… even if
that pool is filled with Kool-Aid.

bypassing the role of a record label.
