Sunday 8th June 2008 - 8pm
Simon Amstell made his name presenting music shows on Channel 4 and Nickelodeon before taking over as host on BBC’s anarchic music quiz Never Mind The Buzzcocks. He quickly stamped the show with his own unique and irreverent personality and went on to collect two prizes at the British Comedy Awards. His material is challenging and playful – delivered with enormous charm and just a little of the trademark sarcasm we’ve come to expect. Brilliantly sharp and criminally funny. (back to top)

Mick Hucknall at the New Theatre Oxford
HUCKNALL - TRIBUTE TO BOBBY
Saturday 5th July 2008 - 8pm
This summer Mick will release his first solo project under his own name rather than as Simply Red. We are delighted to announce that the first album will be 'Hucknall: Tribute to Bobby' - Bobby being American singer Bobby Bland who released a lot of material in the 50's and 60's and had a big influence on a young Hucknall. For the very first time Mick is stepping out from Simply Red, and has announced a new European summer tour to support his eagerly anticipated debut solo studio album 'Tribute To Bobby', released May 19th. The Bobby in question is the enormously influential African- American singer Bobby 'Blue' Bland, sometimes referred to as the 'Lion of the Blues'. 'Tribute to Bobby' is a twelve track master class in soul, blues and R&B and a tribute to one of Hucknall's most important inspirations and musical idols. Along with such artists as Sam Cooke, Ray Charles and Junior Parker, Bland developed a sound that mixed gospel with blues and R&B. He sang classics such as big-band blues number 'Farther Up The Road' (US R&B top 10 hit in 1957) and perfected his craft in the 1960's with a series of releases including 'Cry Cry Cry' and 'I Pity The Fool'. On the album 'Tribute to Bobby' Hucknall's compelling vocals emphasise the sentiment of each of the twelve cover songs, whilst masterfully adopting the songs and making them entirely his own.
